Just like us, pets can experience pain and other problems if their dental health isn’t in tip-top shape. Regular cleanings can be a game-changer, helping your pet avoid issues down the road.

Keep your pet’s pearly whites clean!
Did you know that over two-thirds of all cats and dogs show symptoms of oral disease? Exceptionally bad breath, brownish plaque at the base of the teeth, excessive drooling, sore or bleeding gums when eating or chewing, and decreased appetite can all be signs that a pet’s teeth require attention.
Maintaining strong dental health and a regular cleaning program not only assures that your pet’s mouth and teeth will remain in excellent condition, but will also help to prevent infections that can spread through the bloodstream to affect major organs such as your pet’s liver, kidneys, and heart.
Signs that may indicate a dental problem include:
- Bad breath
- Excessive drooling
- Dropping food
- Sudden disinterest in chew toys
- Loss of appetite
- Swollen or painful face
- Pawing at the mouth
- Gums that are red, swollen or bleeding

Dental Care at Home
Dental homecare is preventative maintenance—it keeps your pet’s teeth healthy but cannot correct existing dental issues. If your pet already has a painful dental problem, brushing may be uncomfortable and can create resistance to future brushing. For this reason, it’s essential to start brushing after a dental exam by your veterinarian to ensure your pet’s mouth is healthy.
Daily brushing removes plaque before it turns into tartar, which can occur in just a few days.
- Plaque forms within hours of eating.
- Tartar (hardened plaque) can only be removed professionally by a veterinarian.
- Daily brushing is key—brushing less than every other day provides little to no benefit.
Daily brushing is the best way to keep your pet’s teeth clean and healthy. Here’s what you need to get started:
- A soft-bristled pet toothbrush or a toddler toothbrush.
- Pet-safe toothpaste (e.g., poultry, beef, or vanilla mint flavors), but the mechanical brushing is the most important part
Get Them Used to Touch
Gently handle their mouth daily. Reward with treats.Use a Tasty Finger
Rub gums with a broth-dipped finger. Keep sessions short.Try Cloth or Gauze
Wrap it around your finger, rub teeth gently.Introduce the Toothbrush
Let them lick it, then brush a few teeth at a 45° angle.Add Pet Toothpaste
